On Wednesday morning, Zakk’s grandmother, Delia Kuzda, passed away. Grandma Dee was a wonderfully spunky woman with a big heart and an easy laugh. She was kind and generous and we are heartbroken by this loss. We were both really looking forward to seeing her next weekend for our Ohio baby shower and are so sad we will not get one last hug from her, one last sweet smile, and that she will not be able to meet her first great-grandchild.
Zakk called to tell her we were pregnant and then she called me because she was so excited. She told me how thrilled she was for us and how she just knew we would be wonderful parents. Having raised three daughters herself, I was looking forward to hearing her stories and advice about our baby girl. But Zakk and I have so many wonderful memories of her and are grateful for all the time we were able to spend with Grandma Dee over the years.
A year before we made our cross-country journey to settle in Portland, OR, we moved out of our apartment in Lakewood, OH and into part of her home in Strongsville, OH. We enjoyed dinners with her, heard more stories about her life than we can probably recall, and made an even stronger connection to her than we previously had. Living with Grandma Dee gave us so much more time than we would have had with her otherwise and we are both truly grateful for that opportunity. She will live on forever in our hearts.
This is very lovely, Kristin. Love you guys
