9 Months!

Dear Colette,

You turned 9 months old about a week and a half ago, on March 28th. Yep, 9 months old already. I feel like I say this all the time, but I can’t believe how fast time is moving these days!

You have made so many leaps in the past couple of months and are clearly on the verge of so many more. Like crawling. You’re not there yet, but you’ve been scooting around the house backwards, doing push-ups, and maneuvering turns for the past few weeks.

Push-ups So Dang Cute

It seems like overnight you went from complete resistance to being on your belly to happily hanging out that way and pushing yourself around backwards. Seriously, one day you were rolling over to your back every time we put you down on your belly and the next you were pushing up to all fours, rocking back and forth, and moving around the room. Of course you can’t see where you’re going so you sometimes end up stuck, but you’re figuring it out.

Stuck-2 Stuck-1

And you love to shake and eat your maraca. You can even make it pop! And your facial expressions have gained some more range. You regularly make the face of shock and awe, plus there’s the new squinty face.

***You should turn up your volume to really get the full effect of her antics in these and the rest of the videos in this post.***

I introduced you to the swings about a month and a half ago. You weren’t really a fan the first time you tried it.

First Time Alone on the Swing

But now you love to swing at the park!

Happy Swinging

You love to blow raspberries and can manage to make spitting look cute.

You are eating more foods these days. You like pureed carrots, squash, pears, sweet potatoes, prunes, pears+raspberries, and pears+mango. Plus I’ve given you tiny bits of some non-pureed foods like banana and mango. You suck the juice out of satsuma pieces (while I hold on as tight as I can so you don’t suck the thing right out of my fingers and into your little throat!) and you like to lick lemon and lime slices. I’ve also give you large apple slices to gnaw on, which you love. But I have to keep my eye on you because your little gums are strong and, to my surprise, you manage to gnaw off chunks that are too big for you to swallow. Usually you spit them out, but sometimes I have to go digging around to get them out of your mouth. You have had a few rather unpleasant encounters with oatmeal and peas, so we’re avoiding those for now. It seems you are probably allergic to them, which is unfortunate because you like eating them. Hopefully it’s something you will outgrow.

Eating Apple

You like to play peek-a-boo.

You love splashing around and watching the waterfalls I make by pouring water out of a cup during bath time.

Bath Time

You are still working on creating good sleep habits, but you are sleeping in your own bed in your own room these days and your Dad and I generally don’t have to hold you for naps anymore.

Sweet Slumber

You love eating your toes.

Tasty Toes

In fact, you put everything in your mouth.

Blue Cup

You are noticing new things every day. For instance, the shadow of your Daddy’s hand.

And you love watching your Daddy play the guitar for you.

Even better is when he lets you play with the guitar!

You are such a joy to have in our lives and we love you so very, very much!

Oh – how time flies! This post reminds me of the fact that me, too, have been gone for nine months! I’m glad to get to see little Colette here… she resembles you very much, Kristin! Much love to your little family from Switzerland!
